How to Kill Fear

July 03, 20242 min read

The monster under the bed. The bogeyman in the closet…

Questions in our mind… Will I fail? Or So what?

We weigh risks based on our fears.

We will never walk willingly into a fog. We’ll always choose misery over uncertainty.

And most people don't use second-order thinking by default. Without the right tools, we’re left in the void of the unknown. And that paralyzes us.

But when we define fear, specifically, we bring light to the darkness. We're able to see.

The monster disappears. The bogeyman does, too.

"One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do"

-Henry Ford

This reflects the idea that people often underestimate their own abilities due to fear or self-doubt.

Visualize yourself successfully overcoming your fears.

So, how do we begin?

5 Practical Steps to Conquer Your Fears

1. Identify the Fear

Write it down. Be specific. Ask yourself, "What’s the worst that could happen?"

2. Ask "So What?"

Break down the fear step by step. Each time you answer, ask "So what?"

  • "If I start this business, it will drain my savings." So what?

  • "I won’t have any savings." So what?

3. Research and Prepare

“Will your business make money?” Maybe. Then you need specific research to know for sure. No voids. Fill the void with knowledge. Research your market, test your ideas, and plan for contingencies.

Pro Tip: Companies that conduct regular market research are 466% more likely to succeed with new product launches according to HubSpot.

4. Take Small Steps

Action kills fear. Start with small, manageable steps toward your goal. Visualize your success in detail to make it feel more attainable.

5. Reframe Failure

See it as a learning opportunity, not a final destination.

Conquer and kill the fear. Turn the unknown into the known. Define your fears, illuminate them, and watch the monsters disappear.

Fear is just a four-letter word. It's time to redefine it. Imagine a life where fear doesn't hold you back. Where every challenge is an opportunity, and every setback is a setup for a comeback.

Take the first step today! Write down one fear you're ready to tackle. Then, do one thing that scares you. Just one. You'll be amazed at how empowering it feels.

Ready to turn fear into fuel? Let's do this.
